Woman Up (WUP) is a grassroots initiative for gender equality, designed to drive change within our workplace and challenge unconscious bias in every aspect of our work. Launched by R/GA London in 2015, WUP has created forums for conversation and debate, empowered female talent throughout the business, advocated for progressive HR policy and built a content platform and open-source toolkit for release in Summer 2017.
WUP started as a simple conversation between two women at R/GA. They recognised a movement in the industry and beyond to stand up to long standing gender inequality. Rather than outsourcing a diversity initiative they set up a collective inside the agency to bring about change from within. Functioning as a cooperative of 70+ members of all genders, spanning interns to Executive Directors, WUP has become an influence group, with actual influence.
Our monthly programme of work extends across every aspect of agency life. From informal Breakfast Sessions and Speaker Series to our Diversity Cube and unconscious bias training we are fostering a more open minded and collaborative workplace. Contributing to live creative briefs (WUP Works) to counter unconscious bias, WUP is adding value directly to the agency and our clients, driving creative ideas which are both relevant and inclusive.
WUP didn’t come from the top down and isn’t a corporate diversity project designed to tick boxes. WUP is an authentic example of a homegrown, countercultural movement driving real, visible change.
